About
The business was first started by William Sawyer in 1855 and was taken over by J.W. D'Arcy from William's son Walter in 1923. They became synonymous with their landmark shop at 7 Westgate, Peterborough, where for over 90 years they provided high quality jewellery related services to the City and the surrounding area, including Cambridgeshire and Norfolk.
Generations of customers have known the family run business through the highs and lows of their history, including WWII when the sons were called up, but thankfully returned to carry on.
There had been a jewellery business on the same site for 167 years until it closed in 2021, and today the business continues to operate online only.
J.W. D'Arcy is embracing technological change, and by moving online only has focused its core professional services in the sale and valuation of jewellery, watches and precious metals through Golding Young auctioneers and valuers.
Auctions
Golding Young have been handling the sale of jewellery since 1864, and the expertise of our specialist jewellery valuers and general valuers has led to some notable finds.
Past highlights include a 5ct diamond ring achieving £56,000 and a set of five diamond stars (pictured), possibly formerly part of a tiara achieving £26,000 at auction.
We hold monthly Collective Sales which include a variety of jewellery from antique to modern. This is not just with individual pieces either, often group lots of costume jewellery are offered with great success.
We are also one of the few auction houses to have auctioneers with the PJ Dip & PJ Gem Dip qualifications from the National Association of Jewellers (formerly Goldsmiths) to support our Resident Valuers.
